nothing here is canon

Appearance

Floriettes are feline "spirits" or "fairies" with large bunny-like ears. They can be either quadruped or biped and can come in all shapes and sizes.

There are no color restrictions for Floriette coats. However, their clothes and accessories often reflect the color of their ensha (see below).

Ensha and Clarity

Floriettes are born with a natural affinity to specific types of ensha. There are eight main types of ensha, all of which correspond to different elements:

  • Red-Type (Fire) - Floriettes with this affinity are often hot-tempered and quick-witted. They are always ready to get the job done and have high offensive magic.
  • Orange-Type (Wood) - Floriettes with this affinity are warm and friendly. They prefer to stay in villages and are the best at building, gardening, and farming. They have medium defensive magic.
  • Yellow-Type (Lightning) - Floriettes with this affinity are extremely fast and make the best messengers. They have medium offensive magic.
  • Green-Type (Wind) - Floriettes with this affinity uniquely have wings. They are strongest at scouting and weather prediction. They have medium defensive and offensive magic.
  • Cyan-Type (Ice) - Floriettes with this affinity are stoic and quiet. They have high offensive and defensive magic but are extremely weak in warm regions.
  • Blue-Type (Water) - Floriettes with this affinity are calm and collected. They have medium defensive, healing, and offensive magic.
  • Purple-Type (Stone) - Floriettes with this affinity are stubborn and traditional. They have the highest defensive magic and medium offensive magic.
  • Magenta-Type (Crystal) - Floriettes with this affinity are curious and kind. They have high healing, defensive, and offensive magic. However, they are generally pacifists and do not practice offensive magic.

The magical potential of Floriettes depends on the clarity of their ensha. Floriettes with little-to-no magical potential have "cloudy" or "muddy" ensha, which is represented by the color grey. While it is not impossible to master their element, Floriettes with grey ensha have to work harder to increase the clarity of their ensha. Floriettes with high clarity (saturation) ensha have high potential in their element and can easily master their craft with a bit of honing.

Mastering ensha is a lifelong process that all Floriettes work towards. Each type of ensha offers a different specialty or "trade" that the Floriettes can use to contribute to society. From an early age, Floriettes are taught by their families to master their tools of trade. Floriettes inherit their natural affinities from their parents. They experience faster growth when honing these innate affinities.

It is not unheard of for Floriettes to branch out and attempt to master other types of ensha instead. Sometimes, a Floriette will choose to master a new type of ensha after they mastered their innate ones. Other times, they may choose to pursue different types of ensha altogether and ignore their innate affinities. It takes Floriettes twice as long to master an element they have no affinity to versus an element they do have an affinity towards.

It is heavily looked down upon and dangerous for Floriettes to attempt to master multiple types of ensha at once. Soul trees reflect the ensha that Floriettes have mastered or have affinities to. It takes the mastery of an element to maintain a stable "color" in the soul tree. Until the ensha is mastered, Floriettes have almost no control over how the soul tree handles ensha. Mixing different types of ensha can lead to multiple results, including but not limited to: stasis, conversion, and corruption.

Ensha Subtypes

Magic potential is classified based on the color and clarity of ensha. Aside from the eight types of ensha listed above, there exist the following:

  • Grey-Type ("Cloudy") - Ensha that is desaturated/cloudy indicates a weak affinity towards magic.
  • White-Type ("Wild Card") - Baby Floriettes with white-type ensha are able to adapt with the highest clarity and mastery to one element of their choosing.
  • Black-Type ("Double Affinity") - Baby Floriettes with black-type ensha are able to adapt to two types of ensha with the highest clarity of their choosing (but no mastery).

Soul Trees

Floriette lifespans depend entirely on the well-being of their soul trees. Soul trees are embedded with high concentrations of ensha, which provide magical power to Floriettes. Every soul tree displays visible ensha veins; however, only creatures blessed with magic are able to see these veins. To normal humans, soul trees look like natural flora.

Soul trees are normally planted in safe, well-hidden or guarded places. Floriettes are very secretive about the locations of their soul trees. They only share these locations with their family and most trusted companions. The knowledge of the location of one's soul tree could be extremely dangerous if fallen into the wrong hands. Soul trees can be destroyed when a being of equal or greater magical power; however, the destruction of soul trees is very rare because the same amount of ensha destroyed from a soul tree is also taken from the Floriette who performs the act. (Does that make sense? Equal trade-off kind of thing. You hurt someone else = you hurt yourself.) In addition, the more a Floriette destroys another's tree, the cloudier their ensha becomes (and thus, the weaker they become).

Every time a Floriette uses magic, it consumes a bit of the ensha stored in their Soul Tree. Floriettes who deplete their ensha reserves will fall into a coma-like state. When this happens, their companions only have a certain amount of time to replenish or "donate" their ensha to revive their friend. As a safety guard against this risk, Floriettes will keep "reserves" of their ensha, bottled and stored in a very safe place - just in case.

Upon mastery of a certain type of ensha, soul trees begin to produce flowers or fruit. Many Floriettes adorn their soul tree's flowers as accessories, while some carry bottles of their ensha extracted from said flowers. The ensha extracted from soul trees can be used to enchant clothing, weapons, accessories, etc.

Also another tidbit about this before I sleepo is that the more masteries a Floriette has, the larger their soul tree grows. Senka- and higher-ranked Floriettes have the ability to "hide" their soul trees from the world with illusions, while Omni-Kai Floriettes are able to move their trees altogether to a hidden realm accessible only to them (and those they trust).

Society and Hierarchy

Floriettes live in villages that are grouped generally by their affinity. [OK I"M TIRED I WILL ADD MORE TO THIS LATER. But basically they live in groups of their colors, but some villages/more developed cities have higher mixture of diff affinities. Sometimes peeps are hired or will move to diff villages to perform tasks only they can do. Villages trade with each other to make up for another's weaknesses, etc etc etc]

Several factors build up the hierarchy of Floriette society which are defined mostly by a Floriette's soul tree and ensha. While most Floriettes spend their lives mastering one type of ensha, there are many other Floriettes who have mastered multiple. Floriettes are given titles and are ranked by their level of mastery.

  • The lowest ranking Floriettes have grey-type ensha. They have no strong ensha affinities and do not have any masteries. They do not carry any titles.
  • Floriettes who have high affinities to at least one type of ensha but have not mastered a type have the title, Isha.

After Floriettes have mastered a type of affinity, their titles become:

  • Hoka for 1-3 masteries
    • Hoka-Ra is the title given to Floriettes who are mastering their fourth ensha
  • Rasha for 4-6 masteries
    • Rasha-Sen is the title given to Floriettes who are mastering their seventh ensha
  • Senka for 7 masteries
    • Senka-Om is the title given to Floriettes who are mastering their eighth ensha
  • Omni for 8 masteries

In addition, the title Omni-Kai exists as an extension of Omni for Floriettes who have walked among the stars and been blessed by the gods. They are immortal.

Lifespan and Breeding

Floriettes are born when two parents make their pilgrimage to the Fountain of Life at the base of the Great Tree. There, they must pluck a spirit lotus, fill its seed head with their combined ensha, and place it back in the water to incubate. During the first night, the spirit lotus closes its petals and begins the incubation process. Incubation takes 3-5 nights to complete, and most parents stay for that long to guard their lotus from potential thieves. The genders of the parents do not matter.

After the lotus is done incubating, it will bloom again on the last night to reveal a baby Floriette hugging a small seed, surrounded by crystallized ensha. After the baby is "born", the parents will return to their home and make a "milk" paste using the petals of the spirit lotus and ensha crystals. This ensha-infused milk is fed to the baby to help it grow.

Baby Floriettes are born with at least one type of affinity towards ensha. Parents who have different affinities or have mastered multiple types of ensha are not guaranteed to have their child inherit all of their masteries. The color of a Floriettes ensha is revealed at birth. Often times, if a Floriette is born with multiple affinities, there is a strong presence of one type of ensha and small amounts of others. Floriettes born with multiple strong affinities are rare but are exceptionally gifted children.

Floriettes are fully grown by the time they reach 2-3 years, during which they are eligible to breed. They have lifespans that are proportional to their masteries. Grey-type Floriettes only live up to 5 years, while Isha may live up to 10. With each level of mastery, Floriettes can live 100-150 more years. Omni Floriettes have been known to live up to 1000 years. Omni-Kai Floriettes are immortal.
